Dr. Wolfgang Köberer
Dr. Köberer was born in in Selters/Ww. in 1949. After obtaining his “Abitur” (university entrance diploma), he lived in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, Pa. (USA), from 1969 to1970 doing social work. After returning to Germany, he studied law at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, receiving a scholarship from the “Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes” from 1974 to 1976. After his 2nd state examination (equivalent to the bar exam), he worked as an assistant to Prof. Dr. Herbert Jäger, professor for penal law and criminal policy, from 1978 to 1984. He joined HammPartner in 1984.
His PhD thesis deals with problems of criminal sentencing. His publications concentrate on questions of penal law, extradition law and criminal procedure. Apart from that, he has also published books and articles on the history of navigation and cartography.
The focus of his work lies in the following areas: white-collar crime and fiscal offences, international penal law, extradition and international cooperation in criminal matters. He is a member of the “Arbeitsgemeinschaft Strafrecht” (working committee on penal law) of the "Deutscher AnwaltVerein" (German Lawyer`s Association) and of the Deutsche Strafverteidiger e.V. (Association of German Defence Lawyers) as well as the Society for Nautical Research. Since 2019 he is a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Committee for the History of Nautical Science.
